The itinerary

Day 1: Arrive to Baghdad

Meet & greet in Baghdad! We’ll meet you at the airport and help you with your visa. We’ll meet for dinner. Overnight in Baghdad.

Day 2: Explore Baghdad

We’ll start our day at 7 am with traditional breakfast before exploring the chaotic and vibrant city. We’ll hit up Old Baghdad, hit up famous book street, visit heritage sites like Abbasid Palace, take a boat ride on the Tigris river, and finish with a local dinner! We’ll be having Masgouf, the national dish of Iraq! Overnight in Baghdad.

Day 3: Another day in Baghdad

After breakfast, we’ll go to Salman Park, the neglected panorama building, and the Ziggurat of Dur-Kurigalzu and Enlil temples. Catch sunset before heading to dinner! Overnight in Baghdad.

Day 4: Babylon to Karbala

Right after breakfast, we head to the UNESCO World Heritage Site… Babylon! Yes, THE Babylon. We’ll explore the ancient city, see the rebuilt Ishtar gate, and explore governmental palaces. We’ll have lunch and do some shopping at a famous market before driving over to Karbala!

Day 5: Nasiriya

We head 3 hours south to Nasiriya to visit the grounds of The Great Ziggurat of Ur, a UNESCO world heritage site since 2016 and the former capital of Mesopotamia during the Sumerian time. The site includes Abraham House, Sholgi Palace, and the oldest arch of its kind at the entrance of Dub-Lal-Makh Temple. Dinner and prepare for VERY early start tomorrow.

Day 6: The Marshes

4am wake up call to go have the iconic marshland experience. We’ll go on a boat tour with a local and have a special fish for lunch. Afterwards we’ll head back to Baghdad.

Day 7: Samarra & Hatra

7 am Heading to Samara’a visiting the beautiful Abbasid Caliphate architecture and artistic relics, twisted minarets, and lake palace, the great mosque of Samarra. The shrines of two Imams. This historical city has been on UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2007. After lunch heading to Hatra, an important historic religious center with its strategic position along caravan trade routes. Hatra was one of the first Arab states to be established outside of Arabia. Then we drive to Mosul!!

Day 8: Mosul

We’ll spend the morning exploring the old city and sights like Al- Nuri Mosque, Al Hadbaa Minaret, and Al Tahira church. We’ll walk through sights that have been destroyed by ISIS and in the afternoon, we’ll see Bakhdida, a christian town. Overnight in Erbil.

Day 9: Fly Home from Erbil

Transfers will be arranged to the Erbil airport. You can explore Erbil or Kurdistan on your own. We’re also able to help organize further travel into Kurdistan.
