Unique things to do in Seoul, South Korea

Temple Stay

Trade the hustle and bustle of city life for a tranquil retreat. Learn ancient meditation techniques, savor delicious temple cuisine, and recharge your batteries in a serene setting while learning about local culture and tradition.

Hanbok Experience

Dress up as Korean royalty in the beautiful Hanboks. I’ve never actually done anything super touristy like this before but in Korea, I really wanted to try it. The dresses are really beautiful, the shops even do their hair, and it seems that it really is welcomed and encouraged by locals. You can find a hanbok rental shop near the famous attractions and palaces. Bonus: if you wear a hanbok, you don’t have to pay the palace entrance fees.

Jjimjilbang (Korean Sauna)

Treat yourself to a day of relaxation Korean-style at a Korean sauna. Immerse yourself in soothing hot baths, unwind in various sauna rooms, and maybe even indulge in a massage or full-on body scrub. This was an interesting experience, I was given an orange set of clothing to wear and then in the hot baths, you went in completely unclothed (separated by gender!). I had never done anything like this before but it was fun. My friend and I were the only non-Koreans at the sauna we went to so it was really local. It also has great health benefits, I mean, take it from the Koreans!

Karaoke or Noraebang

A must-do when in South Korea. You’ll see karaoke spots in nearly every neighborhood and definitely in Hongdae. I’ve been told that some people go after work by themselves to let out stress. Personally, it sounds like a healthy and fun way to release stress. You can also see people singing in the rooms from the street sometimes.

Lotte World

Lotte World is a major entertainment complex located in Seoul, South Korea. It consists of the world’s largest indoor theme park, an outdoor amusement park, shopping malls, hotels, a museum, and more. If you’re a woman, wearing a school uniform as a costume while at the amusement park is quite a trend.

K-Pop dance class

I took THE famous dance class at 1Million Dance Studio in Seoul and it was honestly so fun. I’m not really a dancer but I wanted to try it because one of the most talented and influential choreographers co-founded the studio and it’s the best studio to go to. The dance class was extremely tough and there were over 40 people in one class which was too much.

Scalp Treatment

In South Korea, scalp treatments are a popular part of overall hair care routines, focusing on maintaining a healthy scalp to promote strong and lustrous hair. These treatments have many steps and  involve a combination of cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, and massage techniques tailored to address specific scalp concerns such as dandruff, dryness, oiliness, or sensitivity. I went to Eco-Jardin and really enjoyed my experience.

Color Analysis

Color analysis consultations in Korea are a popular service that help individuals determine which colors complement their skin tone, hair color, and overall appearance. These consultations aim to identify the most flattering shades for clothing, makeup, and hair dye to enhance one’s natural beauty. I didn’t do this but I know so many people who do it.
