12 Day Northern Pakistan Itinerary

Twelve days in Pakistan is simply not enough but if that’s all you have, here’s the ultimate itinerary to pack in the very best of Pakistan. This itinerary is well-rounded and includes cities, mountains, culture, and history. You could totally spend just 12 days in the North exploring the mountains, valleys, and going on hikes. You could also spend between a couple of cities, slow traveling and eating your way through the country.

Day 1-2: Lahore

Fly into Lahore, the Punjab side of Pakistan. This city is really beautiful and full of history and heritage. You can fit in the best of Lahore in two days. You’ll want to explore the historic Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque,  wander through the streets of the old Walled City which is truly special, and check out  the Lahore Museum.

  • If you’re looking to do some traditional Pakistani clothing shopping, 
  • Enjoy a food tour to taste local delicacies like street kebabs, samosas, and falooda.
  • Visit Shalimar Gardens and indulge in some shopping at Anarkali Bazaar.
Day 3-4: Islamabad and Rawalpindi
  • Travel to Islamabad, the capital city, and visit landmarks like Faisal Mosque and Pakistan Monument.
  • Explore the Lok Virsa Museum to learn about Pakistan’s diverse culture and heritage.
  • Take a day trip to Rawalpindi to experience its bustling markets and try its famous food street, Gawalmandi.
Day 5-6: Swat Valley
  • Head to Swat Valley, known for its stunning scenery and rich history.
  • Explore Mingora city and visit the Swat Museum to learn about the region’s Gandhara civilization.
  • Enjoy nature walks, hiking, or trout fishing in the picturesque surroundings of Malam Jabba or Kalam Valley.
Day 7-8: Skardu and Shigar Valley
  • Fly or drive to Skardu, gateway to the mesmerizing Karakoram Range.
  • Take a jeep safari to explore the dramatic landscapes of Shigar Valley and visit the historic Shigar Fort.
  • Embark on a day trip to the stunning Shangrila Resort or Satpara Lake for breathtaking views.
Day 9-10: Hunza Valley
  • Travel to Hunza Valley, often referred to as the “Shangri-La of Pakistan.”
  • Visit the Baltit Fort and Altit Fort to learn about the region’s history and culture.
  • Enjoy a leisurely walk through picturesque villages like Karimabad and experience local hospitality.
Day 11-12: Karachi
  • Fly to Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub.
  • Explore the bustling streets of Saddar and Clifton, and visit landmarks like Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum and Mohatta Palace.
  • Indulge in Karachi’s diverse culinary scene, with must-try dishes like biryani and seafood at Boat Basin.
  • Spend your final day relaxing at Clifton Beach or shopping for souvenirs at Empress Market before departing.
